Also known as Spanish Harlem or El Barrio, East Harlem is a neighborhood heavily populated with the Hispanic population in Upper Manhattan. Largely comprised of Latinx individuals from Puerto Rico, the Dominican, Cuba, and Mexico, you’re sure to find a lot of culture in this neighborhood. In the past, East Harlem was known as Italian Harlem due to the largely Italian population. Today, remnants of that still exist. This predominantly working-class neighborhood is bordered by 5^th Avenue on the West, the Harlem River on the East and North, and East 96^th Street to the South. In these borders, has retail locations like Dollar Tree, American Outlet, and Bill’s Discount Furniture. Corporate offices of Robert J. Rodriguez and Co-Op Tech are also in the area. Easily get from one place to another with the use of the 4, 5, and 6 trains, as well as the Hudson, Harlem, Danbury, New Canaan, and New Haven lines. Buses are easily accessible as well, being the M96, M15, M101 – 103, and many more are available. East Harlem is great for those trying to appeal to the culturally diverse area!
