Roosevelt Island, Upper East Side

Between Manhattan Island to its west and Queens on the East is Roosevelt Island. It lays in the East River and is indirectly connected to the borough of Manhattan by the Roosevelt Island Tram, Roosevelt Island Red Bus, and the F train at Roosevelt Island Station. In the past, this island housed both hospitals and prisons. Since then, its nickname of Welfare Island has transformed into Roosevelt Island, named after Franklin D. Roosevelt. On the island itself, you’ll find retailers few and far apart. Rather, this neighborhood is popular for more government-based offices. For example, retailers like My Music Society, Duane Reade, and the Roosevelt Island Amish Farmers Market. Roosevelt Island is a small island in the middle of Manhattan, so those looking to open stores or offices here should take this into account. To check out Roosevelt Island on Google Maps, click here.
