Just as the name suggests, the Lower East Side is one of the most southeastern neighborhoods in Manhattan. It lays between the borders of the East River, Bowery, East Houston Street, and Pike and Canal Streets. Abbreviated as LES, this neighborhood was once a buffer ground between the Dutch immigrants and Native Americans. As time passed, German immigrant numbers increased. After World War II, though, this population decreased, and the Lower East Side became the first racially integrated neighborhood in New York City. Today, LES is one of the most popular and chic spots in NYC. Residents love the retail stores like Freeman Sporting Club, Marshalls, and Askan. Because this is a largely trendy and residential area, not many corporate offices are found here. Thankfully, this residential area also makes it a spot full of transportation. The F, J, B, and D trains, along with the M14, M15, and M9 buses, are accessible. For a business looking to expand and appeal to a stylish community, the Lower East Side is perfect.
